Grow Up!
by sheila
God loves little children but He does not expect us to stay as little children for the rest of our lives. Similarly, parents expect their children to grow up, become mature in their thinking and behaviour and develop into independent, responsible adults.
One thing that God wants for all of us is to GROW UP. He does not want us to remain spiritual babies but sadly many of us are stuck at various stages of childhood or adolescence. Peter tells us “as new-born babes, desire the pure milk of the word that you may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:2). Paul tells us in Ephesians 4 that God gave us the different ministries in the church “for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry … till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12-13) and we are told in Hebrews that “though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles … you have come to need milk and not solid food … (Hebrews 5:12-14). So how do we grow up?
Just as we need physical food for growth and strength, we need spiritual food for our spirits. That food is quite simply the Word of God – the Bible. “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness that the man (or woman) of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Feed your spirit daily just as you would feed your body – with good wholesome food and you will experience spiritual growth. Read and study the scriptures – listen to good bible teaching – apply it to your life!
